The vice president of the Republic of Liberia His Excellency Joseph Nyumah Boakai visited the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital and made some donations in commemoration of his 73rd birthday celebration. Making the donation of assorted medical supplies, the vice president commended the management and staff of the hospital, for their continued commitment to providing quality health care to Liberians across the country. He praised the institution for professionalism in health care delivery, and assured management of his continuous support to the institution.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, the hospital director Br. Peter Lansana Dawoh thanked Vice President Boakai, and promised that the donated supplies will be used for the sick and needy. He also used the occasion to appeal to the Vice president’s office to continue its support to the institution. Br. Dawoh listed the many challenges facing the hospital, including the high cost of power generation to power the hospital and its equipments, and the burden of paying staff salary and keeping the hospital functional, out of the minimal support from the Ministry of Health and fees paid by patients.
He called on Vice President Boakai to use his office now and in the future to continuously support the work of the Hospital. He assured the Vice President of the hospital’s continuous support to the government’s health care delivery initiatives, amidst the struggle to keep its doors opened.
St. Joseph Catholic Hospital is managed by the Hospitaller Brothers of St. John of God of the St. Augustine Province with Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, with Br. Peter Lansana Dawoh serving as its current Hospital Director.
